One Bird Favorites
American Mah Jongg supplies and resources I’ve tried, loved, and actually use.
You don’t need the fanciest tiles or the trendiest racks to play a great game — but you might want them. There are options for every kind of player, no matter your preference or style.
Some players cherish their grandmother’s set, complete with worn-out Joker stickers. Others love the crisp click of a brand-new, high-end set. There’s room for everyone at the table.
Here you’ll find my personal favorites. Some links on this page are affiliate links the supplies, books, and games I’ve used, tested, and genuinely recommend. No clutter, no gimmicks — just things that make the game easier and more fun to play.
(Some recommendations on this page are affiliate partnerships, which means I may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. I only recommend products I genuinely use and recommend.)
Mah Jongg Supplies
From sentimental heirlooms to sleek modern sets, the right tools make a difference — not in how well you play, but in how much you enjoy it. These are my favorite Mah Jongg retailers:
Mah Jongg Maven - Beautiful tiles and racks at reasonable prices - with customizable Jokers! I love my set, and have played with many other sets at tournaments and play days and they’re always a hit.
Yellow Mountain Imports - My favorite source for Melamine tiles, which feel as good as they look. Use code ONEBIRD10-YMI-2025 for 10% off.

American Mah Jongg for Everyone by Gregg Swain & Toby Salk — One of the clearest and most readable how-to books out there.
ILoveMahj (Online) – Fantastic learning resource, complete with a sample card and lots of learning tools.
